Your Sweet Sixteen is one of the most exciting nights of your young life. While you’re dancing and having fun with all of your family and friends, it’s traditional to have a candle lighting ceremony to shout out your favorite people. But with so many amazing individuals in your life, how do you choose who to honor with your Sweet Sixteen Candles? Well, here are some ideas.

Candle One

Traditionally, your first candle is dedicated to your parents or legal guardians. After all, without them, you wouldn’t be here. Use your first candle to thank them for everything they’ve done for you and for giving you all the blessings you have in your life.

Candle Two

Your second candle is often reserved for your siblings. They were your first friends and will likely be your last. if you’re an only child, then you can use this candle to dedicate to a very close cousin or just move on to the third candle group.

Candles Three to Seven

These candles are typically reserved for members of your family. You can choose to honor grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins — anyone who you are very close with or who has made a significant impact on your life.

Candles Eight to Fourteen

This is when you shout out and honor your close friends. You can use this time to reminisce on all the wonderful memories you had or express your hope for memories yet to come. If you chose to have a Sweet Sixteen court,  you’ll typically honor the people you chose for that group during these candles.

Candle Fifteen

Your 15th candle is reserved for your best friend(s) in the world. Take a moment to express your gratitude for them and tell them how much their friendship has meant to you.

Candle Sixteen

Use your final candle to make a wish for yourself. You can wish for happiness, health, prosperity —  whatever you want. This candle represents greatness for years to come.
